History: The Aborigines lived in Australia 40 000 years ago, which is more than 12 000 years before people even started to appeared in Europe. The Aborigines lived peacefully as hunters and were really close to nature and the animals in Australia. When the European explorers arrived in Australia the British started to settle down in Australia. This happened in the 17th to the 18th century. More and more British people settled down and the Aboriginals lost their homes and their country, some even died from diseases or were killed in battles with the British or were put into reservations or church missions. Why did these things happen?
In Great Britain people were put into jail for trivia like stealing bread or spitting on the streets. In the end it wasn’t space enough for the prisoners in England, therefore they were sent to Australia where there was plenty of space! Later; the British decided to take “half-blood” Aborigine children (children with white fathers) away from their original families. The British decided everything about the Aborigines by using the dangerous weapon, alcohol. Many of the Aborigines got dependent to alcohol and got their lives ruined because of that. You can still see many Aborigines who struggle from alcohol abuse today, just because of what the British did to them.
The pictures are taken from an Australian movie calld Australia (from 2008). The film is about an aborigine child who was taken away from his parents because of the British.
The movie tells the story about what the British did to Australia, and why the country is the way it is today.
